Not a Church product
Chapel Interpret is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, published, endorsed, reviewed or approved by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It uses the Church's name only to describe what it is for.
How it uses artificial intelligence
Chapel Interpret works by sending speech to artificial intelligence (AI) services run by other companies. While the app is interpreting, everything its microphone hears is sent to these services, including anyone speaking nearby. They turn the speech into text, check it for words that were misheard, and translate it. The day's programme a host pastes in, with the names on it, is sent to them too.
The spoken interpretation you hear is a synthesised AI voice. It is not the speaker's own voice.
We use more than one AI service, and we may change which ones we use over time. Some receive the audio, and others receive only the text.
These companies handle what they receive through their paid services for businesses, under their own terms and privacy policies. They, and other services we use, may handle your information outside Singapore.
Machine interpretation makes mistakes
Captions and voice are produced by machine. They can mishear, mistranslate, leave things out, or add words that nobody said. Chapel Interpret is an aid, not a replacement for a called interpreter. Do not rely on it for ordinances, interviews, councils, or anything else where exact meaning carries authority. Where something matters, check it with a person.
What we keep
We do not record meetings. We do not keep the audio, and we do not keep transcripts. If a host saves the day's programme, we keep it with the room until the host clears it or pastes a new one. After four days it is no longer used.
Our server's working logs can include short passages of what was said, for example when the app corrects a word it misheard. We use them to find and fix faults, and our hosting provider deletes them after a limited time.
Accounts are for people 18 or older. If you create one, we keep your name, email address, ward, stake and gender, and that you are 18 or older. Your email address is how you sign in and how we write to you. Your ward and stake show which congregation you belong to and which unit your meetings count toward. Your gender chooses a man's or a woman's voice when your words are spoken in other languages, and you can pick another voice in the app. We never store your password itself, only a scrambled form of it. Anyone younger can join a meeting as a guest, without an account.
When you join a meeting, with or without an account, we keep the name you gave, the language you chose, and when you joined and left. The meeting's host and the administrators can see this, and your name, your language and whether you have an account also reach the other phones in the same meeting. If you rate a meeting or send the host a note, we keep that too, even after the host removes it from their screen.
When you sign in or join a meeting, we record the time and your browser's time zone (for example Asia/Singapore) to count where the app is used. We do not use your internet address to find where you are. Like most websites, the pages load their typefaces from a font service, and account emails are sent through an email delivery service.
To keep you signed in, your browser holds a sign-in cookie for up to 14 days, and we note which kind of browser it is. Your settings, such as your language and caption size, are remembered on your own device. We also count how much speech and translation each meeting uses, to work out its cost.
Administrators are members given that role to help run Chapel Interpret. They approve new accounts, and they can see every account's details and who attended each meeting. We may email members about Chapel Interpret. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Ask us and we will show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account. If you have ever opened a room, we suspend the account instead and keep its details, because deleting it would also erase those rooms and who attended them. Past attendance lists, ratings and notes keep the name you gave in each meeting.
Using it fairly
Use Chapel Interpret lawfully and kindly. Do not use it to harm or harass anyone, to break the law, or to disrupt or overload the service. We may suspend or remove an account that does.
Fees
Listening is free, and so is an account. Where a ward or stake pays for the service, that is agreed separately with Wrightworks.
An invoice for a ward, branch, stake or district is emailed to hosts in that unit, to pass to their clerk. If it is still unpaid 14 days after its due date, hosts in that unit cannot open or resume rooms until the payment is received. A meeting already running is not cut off.
No guarantee
Chapel Interpret is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it accurate and running, but we cannot promise that it will always work, or that any caption or voice will be correct. As far as the law allows, Wrightworks is not liable for any loss that comes from using Chapel Interpret or from relying on what it produces. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Ownership
The Chapel Interpret name, its design and the software we wrote belong to Wrightworks Pte. Ltd. Church terminology and wording drawn from Church publications remain the property of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Changes, translations and law
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and using Chapel Interpret after a change means you accept the new version.
These terms are translated into every language Chapel Interpret offers. If a translation differs from the English, the English applies.
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore decide any dispute about them.
